ABOUT ABOUT

(Kin)esphere Dance Project makes its debut as Fresno's newest Modern Dance company on March 4, 2021 with Dialogue, an evening-length piece that explores the theme of the human body. The work is centered around a series of questions that invite both the audience and dancers to bring awareness to their own somatic experiences while viewing the piece (for the audience) and moving (for the dancers.) The piece begins with the simple yet profound questions of “what does your body tell you,” and “what do you tell your body.” Over the course of an hour, nine dancers delve into these and other questions, and explore the implications of our embodied human experience. It is hoped that Dialogue will contribute to examining our beliefs and assumptions about our bodies, and to amplify the often unconscious or subconscious voice of the physical body. (Kin)esphere Dance Project, under the artistic direction of Elena Rezai, is a project-based Modern and Contemporary Dance Company whose mission is to spark introspective thought and awareness through performances that challenge the norm. We aim to build community through site-specific dance exploration that occurs in unexpected and innovative places and spaces, through use of film and media, and in inviting the audience to participate in our performances in natural and intuitive ways. Elena holds her BA in Dance from UC Irvine, her MA in Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling from Columbia College Chicago, and is a current MFA candidate in Dance at St. Mary's College. She has been dancing since she was a child, and was introduced to Modern Dance in college, where she fell in love with the style. She believes that movement connects us as human beings, that dance is a universal experience, and that if you can breathe, you can dance.
